Is morality on Life Support?
Intelligence deals with information; morals provide a foundation of wisdom for how that information ought to be used. A society needs both in order to be healthy. People who demonstrate these immoral behaviors are often said to be flawed in character.
Our sense of morality is being called in to question right now. Don't think so? Take a look around you.
Immorality is wrong or bad moral behavior. It is living in a way that goes against the way society says life should be lived. Governments create laws by which its citizens are supposed to live, for the purpose of maintaining order, civility and peace. Communities function best when they operate according to the moral code of the land. Government is suppose to support the better good of people not put profit before life.
People generally have moral values; that is, they accept standards according to which their conduct is judged as either right or wrong, good or evil. The particular norms by which moral actions are judged vary to some extent from individual to individual and from culture to culture (although some norms, such as not to kill, not to steal, and to honor one’s parents, are widespread and perhaps universal), but value judgments concerning human behavior are passed in all cultures.
Yet, in our new world we have a space where morality is slowing evaporating. Prior to now in history, culture has provided us with reliable moral absolutes.
Addressing moral challenges is requiring new human capacities, capacities that before now we could not have fully understood, much less applied. In part, this is because we are being confronted by new kinds of moral questions—for example, those that follow from the need to manage the often two-edged implications of new technologies.
Morality impacts our everyday decisions, and those choices are directed by our conscience. Could it be that we no longer grasp or understand what a good moral life is?
Morals and ethics relating to friends and relatives also exist. Evading them is leading to animosity and is harboring unhealthy friendship and relations. Gone are the days when we heard about person going an extra mile for their friends and relatives sacrificing his various resources like time, health, wealth etc. The same morals and ethics apply to our neighbors and acquaintances too, but, lack of morals and ethics with respect to neighbors and acquaintances have deprived us of such relations which were once considered more important than friendship and relations.
We don't tend to follow any of our moral or ethical responsibility towards ourselves, family and friends, neighbors and acquaintances. We are being dishonest and disloyal to ourselves and society. A person who is dishonest and disloyal to himself or society cannot be honest and loyal to his country.
The consequences of such behaviors are now visible in our country in form of violence, anarchy, fundamentalism, racism, and terrorism to name a few.
